An Oral Hygienist or Dental Hygienist are also commonly known as Oral Health Practitioners and are all considered dental care professionals.
The main difference between an Oral Hygienist and a Dentist is that hygienist’s are there to help you prevent any problems from arising, whereas a Dentist helps on treating current tooth and gum related issues.
An Oral Hygienist offers many ways to help you maintain a healthy mouth and carries out procedure such as Polishing Teeth, Scaling, and the application of Topical Fluoride and Fissure Sealants. Many of these treatments will aid in the overall health of your mouth and oral hygiene and will also provide for a fresh breath and healthy teeth.
The Oral Hygienist work very closely with Dentist and together they will help to overcome any oral issues that you may have and also to prevent any further oral hygiene problems from occurring.

- Monitor plague levels.
- Provide general hygiene advice.
- Offer specific prevention advice.
